New Diamond 12 series

But the all new DIAMOND 12 series is the best DIAMOND series yet! Developed in collaboration with Karl-Heinz Fink - one of the most successful loudspeaker designers in the world. Classic DIAMOND price points, industrial design that's cool and contemporary, yet distinctly Wharfedale, and sound that sets yet another 'budget' benchmark through exceptional acoustic design and engineering.

Clarity emphasizes

NEW Klarity ™ cone material, composed of a blend of polypropylene and mica, adds strength to reduce exing, creating a lightweight cone with high rigidity, low coloration and lightning-fast response.

Low color and expression

The Klarity ™ cone features a low-damping rim, achieving both low coloration and expressive dynamics. By simulating many different cone shapes and adding ribs for further bracing, a flat response curve was achieved without resorting to a highly damping surround, striking the ideal balance.

A magnet of forces

A precision-engineered magnet system with an aluminum compensation ring to minimize the effect of variations in inductance during the course of the voice coil. This contributes to the absence of distortion and intermodulation generated by the 'motor system'.

A voice coil out of this class

The voice coil is wound on a high-performance epoxy/fiberglass coil, which is very unusual in speakers of this price point. This has the advantage of not adding eddy currents and providing greater load carrying capacity than an aluminum coil, while also being much sturdier than the Kapton type associated with this price range.

DIAMOND highlights

The 25mm dome is constructed from a woven polyester film with a high-loss coating to deliver open and evenly extended high frequencies. The magnet system and faceplate are optimized for wide dispersion and uncompressed behavior. The faceplate is flat and exposes the dome as much as possible; only a very short tube on the front plate compensates for the acoustic load and improves the SPL (sound pressure level) measurement.

A crossover of style

The crossover network uses an LKR 24dB acoustic topology. This includes air-core inductors of the type more commonly found in high-end loudspeakers, selected because they produce the lowest distortion of all inductor types. Because the coil resistance is higher than a standard laminated steel or ferrite core inductor, the magnetic structure of the mid/bass driver has been modified to compensate, resulting in fast, clean bass with no distortion from the inductor.

Firm and honest

The ported enclosure on the back of the DIAMOND 12.1 is precisely sized so that the internal volume works in harmony with the drive system to deliver the desired sonic result. A multi-layer sandwich design dampens the recognizable characteristics of the 'sound' of the cabinet. Even the resonating properties of the adhesive between the layers were measured to determine the optimal combination.

brace yourself

Inside the cabinet, Intelligent Spot Bracing connects opposing walls with a specific shape of wooden brace to achieve optimal reduction of cabinet resonance. These brackets have been accurately modeled by computer simulation to enhance the everyday 'figure of eight' bracket, which can easily transfer resonance from one wall to another.
